In a vibrant gathering held at the campus, the Vice Chancellor met with students for an inspiring assembly aimed at fostering dialogue and charting a clear path for the future. The session was marked by messages of encouragement, a call to uphold institutional values and groundbreaking news regarding the university’s physical and academic expansion.
Addressing a packed hall, the Vice Chancellor extended warm greetings on behalf of the University Council and the CCAP Synod of Blantyre. She acknowledged the resilience and dedication students have demonstrated in their academic pursuits, particularly in an ever-changing global landscape.
“You are the reason this institution exists,” she stated. “Your success is our mission, and your character is our legacy.”
The Vice Chancellor encouraged students to remain diligent in their studies, emphasizing that excellence is a habit cultivated through consistent daily effort. She urged them to stay focused, make full use of available resources and support one another throughout their educational journeys.
Alongside this encouragement, she offered a firm reminder about the importance of adhering to the institution’s rules and policies.
“As we grant you the freedom to explore ideas and grow intellectually, we also entrust you with the responsibility to maintain the order and dignity of this university,” she reminded them.
She further highlighted that UBS, founded on Christian-Presbyterian principles, upholds values of integrity, respect, and community. Adherence to institutional guidelines, she noted, ensures a safe and conducive environment where all students can thrive.
The Vice Chancellor was accompanied by several Deans and members of staff who joined her on the podium, underscoring the institution’s collective commitment to student welfare and academic excellence. Their presence reinforced the message of unity and shared purpose among university leadership.
The highlight of the assembly came when the Vice Chancellor unveiled ambitious plans for the university’s expansion. Recognizing the growing demand for quality higher education in Malawi and across the region, UBS is embarking on a significant phase of development.
To accommodate increasing student enrollment and enhance the learning environment, the university will expand its physical infrastructure. These developments are designed to provide world-class facilities that match the strength and quality of UBS’s academic programs.
Reflecting on the university’s steady growth since its establishment in 2018, the Vice Chancellor described the expansion as a testament to UBS’s commitment to broadening access to higher education and developing high-level human capital for the nation.
The assembly ended on a high note, with students expressing enthusiasm about the future of their institution and a renewed commitment to academic excellence.
