University Governance

Governance structure according to the Statutes of the University

CCAP Synod of Blantyre

The University of Blantyre Synod is governed by the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) Synod of Blantyre through the Board of Trustees and the University Council constituted according to the Statutes of the University.

Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees shall be the custodian of the university representing the CCAP Synod of Blantyre. The Board of trustees will serve as a policy making body, which policies will be implemented by university administration hired for this purpose.

Chancellor

The Synod shall appoint the Chancellor of the university. He/she shall be the ceremonial head of the university and represent the university to the Malawi Government.

University Council

The University Council is the governing body which shall have custody of the Common Seal and be responsible for the exercise of the University's powers and determination of policies.

Administration of the Institution

The University shall have the following Officers

Vice Chancellor

The Vice Chancellor, who shall be the Chief Executive Officer of the University whose tenure shall be at least 3 years and shall hold a minimum qualification of PhD or equivalent from a recognized institution.

  • Representation of the University

Registrar

The Registrar who shall be the principal administrative officer responsible for university records, student affairs, and administrative operations.

  • Student admissions and affairs
  • Administrative coordination

University Librarian

The University Librarian oversees the university library system, information resources, and supports academic research and learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Management of library resources
  • Information services coordination
  • Research support
  • Digital resource management

Academic Staff & Other Officers

Qualified academic staff members and other Officers as deemed necessary by the Council for effective university operations.

Includes:

  • Deans of Faculties
  • Heads of Departments
  • Academic staff members
  • Administrative support staff
